Apparently, we will be facing a hostile takeover in the future.

I was informed recently that my son and daughter (with two close friends) would be taking over my business when they retire from their current careers. While this was news to me, I wasn’t surprised. They were raised properly and I would expect the courtesy of letting me know they were replacing me.

Seriously, all four of them have worked here at some time and loved it. And who can blame them? OK, on the surface making wine racking may not appear that exciting. If you look a little closer and understand what we do, the picture changes. We don’t just make traditional wood wine racking, however that’s challenging enough. Think about it. Creating a system that can support thousands of pounds of different size and shape bottles, allowing easy access and inventory and displays them in a way that you can find what you want quickly. All this and tolerances that are less than 1/32” among
thousands of pieces.

That’s pretty much what we did for 20 years and we loved it. Then 12 years ago one of the Architectural firms we work with asked for something different, something new and mostly metal. That opened a door that saw us designing and building rack systems that were not only custom and designed for a specific space but were completely unique. It’s not just wood anymore, we use Steel, Aluminum, Plastic, Glass, Stone and even Carbon Fiber! We’re constantly looking at new and innovative ways to store wine while making sure we maintain the fundamentals of what a cellar does.

It’s not unusual for my wife and I to hear “I’d love to do something like that” when talking with friends or family. We have people who worked for us 5, 10 even 20 years ago stop by to say hi and see what were up to. So it wasn’t a surprise that our children want to do this as well.

It’s not just what we do that makes this company so special to work at, it’s a top down philosophy of respect. We respect our Customers and their right to get our very best. We respect the Architectural firms and General Contractors we work with to make their jobs as easy as possible. And its respect for the people that work here, to listen to them and give them a chance to grow and contribute. To be a partner and not just an employee. And to have fun in the process! You’ll hear more “Sir” and “Mam” around here than a military academy.

We just can’t get them to salute.
